A Journal exploring the value of plants and flowers

Amsterdamse Bos

Three times the size of Central Park, the Amsterdamse Bos is more forest than park. Every tree in this man-made green space was planted by hand in the 1930s as a way for the city to combat high unemployment rates. The forestation project provided jobs for more than 20,000 people, who created a forest from scratch using only shovels and wheelbarrows.

These days, the forest hosts a myriad of activities. Festivals, concerts, rowing contests, and open-air theatre shows are organised every year. There’s a campground and a goat farm, you can rent kayaks, go for a swim, or simply wander around the the forest.
