Rotterdam’s test site for sustainable living
Conceived by Arjan Karssenberg and his students at the Hogeschool Rotterdam, the CHIBB House (Concept House Institute of Building & Business) is a sustainable housing prototype which functions head-to-toe on green technologies, from its structural core made from sustainably sourced materials to the lifestyle it demands of its inhabitants. Carefully positioned to make optimum use of the sunlight, the structure uses cradle 2 cradle methods to reduce energy loss, and the family live off the rooftop farm where they cultivate plants, vegetables and herbs. It is monitored year round by the students, and you can keep tabs on the project through the family’s Instagram account which they regularly update.
