Mille Arbres

Seeds are sewn for Paris's floating forest

Read full project description Close project description

In a major urban development project led by architectural giant Sou Fujimoto and Manal Rachdi of OXO Architects, 1000 trees will be planted on a multi-purpose structure suspended above a main ringroad reviving a forgotten corner of Paris. The development, which is part of the Mayor's wider "Reinventing Paris” project seeks to reconcile architecture, nature and city life on an epic scale. Mille Arbres will disrupt the current trend to build upwards, by fanning out horizontally across the ring road, bringing life back to the area through housing, office and commercial spaces, and of course, vegetation.
