A Journal exploring the value of plants and flowers

Luchtsingel

The Luchtsingel is a collection of buildings, bridges and rooftops that connect the northern part of the city to the city centre. The project evolved around the 390 meter, wooden, crowdfunded bridge that spans a previously abandoned and neglected area behind Rotterdam Central Station. The bridge has since functioned as a catalyst for urban and economic growth in the area.

Part of the Luchtsingel is the DakAkker, the largest rooftop farm in Europe on top of the Schieblock office building. The farm is used to grow vegetables, fruits, and herbs and keep honey bees, as well as to experiment with innovative ways of green roofing and urban farming.

Currently under construction is Rotterdam’s version of New York’s High Line, to be build on top of the old Hofplein station. The rooftop park will create a new green recreational experience, with a stunning view of the city and plenty of room to sit and enjoy the green surroundings.
