Stephen Eichhorn has made vibrant plant collages his idiosyncratic style. The Chicago-based artist spends about 8 to 10 hours each day cutting out images of a variety of different flowers, cacti, succulents and green foliage. By layering them against a block-colour background, he creates a bold floral arrangement that captures the eye. In his quirkier works he experiments with combining pictures of cats and plants to create surreal and Dada-esque images.
Eichhorn sees plants as architectural forms that can be repeatedly used to create a structural-looking image. His aim is to create a balance between a natural and man-made aesthetic.
